New work health guide includes sample policies

The Government employment and conciliation service ACAS has launched a new guide to help businesses promote and manage a healthy workplace.

Published to coincide with Mental Health Action Week (23rd - 29th March), the booklet covers a number of topics including - recognising health problems, what makes a healthy workplace and a 'health, work and wellbeing checklist'.

The guide also provides a section on how to implement policies and procedures, and includes sample policies on drugs and alcohol.

ACAS' area director for Wales, Gareth Petty, said: "Creating a healthy workplace has strong benefits for individuals and organisations. This guide will help businesses to ensure that measures are taken to look after its employees, which in turn will boost productivity and effectiveness.

"If businesses can take steps to manage ill-health - physical and mental - then they will save money and have happier employees."

The free booklet - 'Health, work and wellbeing' - can be downloaded (1MB pdf file) from the ACAS website here
