More domestic CCTV systems being sold
Electricals chain Maplin reported a 70% increase in its sales of domestic security cameras in the past year. It now stocks more than 90 different security cameras and CCTV kits. One of the most popular items was a camera allowing users to view their property from anywhere in the world via the internet, it said.
Maplin marketing director David O'Reilly said: "As a major stockist of CCTV devices, we have noticed the sale of CCTV equipment has rocketed in recent years.
"This trend reveals that it's not just the rich and famous who invest in high-tech security equipment, as more and more people look to take greater precautions to secure their homes."
The retailer sold more CCTV kits at its stores in Leeds than anywhere else in the UK in the past year. Swansea was in second place with Nottingham third.
