New 'assistance' CD for lorry drivers

The Highways Agency has developed a new audio CD providing advice and information to help lorry drivers with their journeys.

The CD, called 'Hear when the going's good', features 10 tracks which include information and advice about journey planning, tunnels, bridges and crossings and what to do in the event of an incident or breakdown. There are four different language versions, English, German, French and Polish, to cater for the increasing number of foreign drivers using UK roads.

An accompanying booklet provides useful contact information and details of the different types of vehicles drivers may see on our roads, including Highways Agency traffic officer and incident response unit vehicles and those used by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

The CD follows the launch of the 'Heavy Good Vehicle' website last year as part of an information campaign developed by the Highways Agency specifically for lorry drivers.

BBC Radio 2's Sally Boazman, who provided the voiceover for CD, said: "The HGV drivers I talk to take their jobs very seriously and are the ultimate professionals. By developing the website and the CD, the Highways Agency are helping them to make their jobs safer by encouraging them to plan their journeys to avoid road works and incidents and to stay safe on the roads."

Audio files can also be downloaded from the HGV website - see link above/right.
