Fire alarm puts BBC news off the air
The BBC's One O'Clock
News was taken off-air today after a fire alarm caused the newsroom
to be evacuated.
Radio 4's The World At One programme was also affected by the alert at BBC Television Centre in White City, west London.
The One O'Clock News on BBC1 was off air for nine minutes and was replaced by BBC World, while the first five minutes of The World At One were replaced by music and continuity bulletins.
The London Fire Brigade were on site and investigating the source of the alarm, a BBC spokesman said.
A BBC spokeswoman added: "There was an alarm at the Television Centre newsroom. Naturally, the safety of our staff is of paramount importance.
"We are very sorry for the loss of some scheduled news programming but safety is always our first concern."
